New Canaan Police Arrest NY Man for DWI

The accused was stopped for speeding, then failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Police arrested a 58-year-old South Salem, NY man at 8:27 p.m. on Feb. 24 and charged him with operating under the influence.

George E. McKnight, of Glen Drive, failed field sobriety tests after police stopped on at New Norwalk Road and Urban Street for speeding, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

After stopping the car, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol and administered the tests, Ogrinc said.

McKnight was released on $260 bond and scheduled to appear March 8 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
