New Canaan Police Cite Stamford Man for Marijuana Possession

The 29-year-old also was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police cited a 29-year-old Stamford man for minor pot possession charges after stopping his car near downtown New Canaan last week because it had a headlight out.

Joshua P. Vartuli, of Glenbrook Road, was issued infraction summonses for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An officer who stopped Vartuli’s car at the bottom of Heritage Hill Road (at Forest) smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and saw a metal marijuana grinder in a sneaker behind the passenger seat, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

Exiting the car, Vartuli also handed over a very small amount of pot from the back pocket of his jeans, Ogrinc said.
