New Canaan Police Searching for Customer Who Used Fake $100

New Canaan Police are looking for a woman who passed off a fake $100 bill at Design Solutions downtown and made off with $96 in real change.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, a female employee at the store filed the complaint Friday, Dec. 27, at approximately 11:18 a.m. She said during a time of heightened customer activity, a woman attempted to make a purchase totaling $3.73, Ogrinc said.

The cashier had asked the woman if she had a smaller bill, but the woman said no. Because the store was "quite busy," according to Ogrinc, the bill was accepted and the woman went on her way.

Following the transaction, the woman took the bill to the bank to have it verified and learned the bill was counterfeit.

The suspect was described as a woman with an olive complexion standing approximately 5' 2" with shoulder length black hair in her mid-to-late-20s and a nose ring dot on the left side of her nose.

New Canaan was not the only store to have fake $100s passed off in town that same Friday, as Darien reportedly experienced the same situation four times as well with an attempt at a fifth.
