New Canaan Police Install Drug ‘Drop Box’

The New Canaan Police recently installed a prescription drug "drop box" in the front lobby at police headquarters.

It’s well known that unused prescription medications pose a risk: they can easily fall into the wrong hands, be accidentally ingested, or simply be past the expiration date — so why take the risk of leaving them around?

Flushing them down the toilet is also not advisable since preliminary studies show prescription drugs may be negatively impacting the ecosystem in ways that are not yet understood.

So how should you dispose of your old prescription drugs? Following other area police departments, the New Canaan Police in the front lobby at police headquarters, 174 South Avenue.

The drop box ensures that prescription drugs are disposed of properly. Residents can dispose of drugs anonymously — no personal information will be collected.

Greenwich, Wilton and Ridgefield have reportedly set up similar drop boxes at their police departments.
