New Canaan, Stamford Trying to Track Down Injured Shepherd

An injured Shepherd mix loose and wandering somewhere between North Stamford and New Canaan is garnering a lot of attention from animal control officers in both towns as the area gears up for more snow set to arrive Tuesday.

The dog was first spotted in North Stamford up near the border between the two towns and has consistently been spotted over the past several weeks in the area. Animal control officers describe the Shepherd mix as tan or brown, very thin and with an injured right rear leg.

The dog has also been very skittish around people every time it's spotted a human, so getting close enough to catch it has been difficult. Several times, food has been set up to try and keep it traveling in a more focused area and then traps were laid out, but so far, they have been set to no avail.

If any Stamford residents happen to spot the dog in the area of High Ridge Road and Rock Rimmon Road, they're asked to contact Stamford Animal Care & Control at 203-977-4437. In New Canaan, the dog was last seen in the areas of St. John's Place and Oenoke Ridge right in the downtown area. If it's spotted again in New Canaan, residents are asked to call 203-594-3510.
