A 17-year-old New Canaan male was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he drove his vehicle partially into a police officer’s lane on Valley Road on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1:30 a.m.
Police said the vehicle was operating erratically and made an abrupt turn. The officer turned his lights on and the vehicle did not stop at first.
When the driver finally stopped, he “appeared to be confused,” Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.
The officer smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle. The driver subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was taken in to custody.
He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to obey the signal of a police officer and failure to drive right. The youth was also issued a verbal warning for failing to carry his driver’s license and insurance card.
He was held on $260 bond and given a Nov. 29 court date.
