New Canaan Woman Arrested for DUI

Cornelia Deney, 50, was arrested on Dec. 14 after allegedly driving under the influence with her two children in the car, according to police.

 

A New Canaan woman was arrested on Dec. 14 after two drivers reported to police that she was driving erratically, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

A motorist called 911 at around 6 p.m. to report that someone driving in front of him was operating their vehicle erratically, police said. He gave the plate number and told the dispatcher that motorist made two wide turns and almost hit two vehicles. Officers arrived within the area of Food Emporium on Elm Street, but weren't able to catch up with the vehicle, according to police.

A second motorist called 911 to report that the same vehicle was going eastbound on Elm Street and, this time, officers were able to catch up with it, Ogrinc said. The officers observed that Cornelia Deney, 50, of Fable Farm Road, appeared intoxicated and had slurred speech. Police said that Deney had her two children in the vehicle with her.

Deney was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. She posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 28.
