New York Troopers Arrest New Canaan Woman for Possession

A New Canaan woman was pulled over on I-684 for allegedly littering.

A New Canaan woman was arrested Sunday after state police allegedly caught her littering on I-684.

Katricia Schmidt, 26, was stopped by New York State troopers on the highway in the town of Bedford at 2:50 a.m. Sunday morning.

During their investigation, police said they discovered Schmidt to be in possession of Clonazepam, a seizure medication for which she did not have a prescription.

Police said they found 97 pills in all.

Schmidt was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She is scheduled for an appearance in Bedford Court on August 23 at 7 p.m.

Defendant Schmidt, you are accused of stupidity. This drug can kill you if you take too much of it. You are sentenced to open 100 CVS childproof medicine bottles a day for two weeks or until your fingers drop off, whichever comes first. Court is adjourned.

Clonazepam is widely prescribed for anxiety, if you knew how many people take it you would be surprised. It just calms your nerves. Don't rush to judgement.

Who cares? This didn't happen in New Canaan.

"This drug can kill you if you take too much of it." As can virtually any drug. What a stupid comment. Especially since as drugs go, it's actually quite difficult to overdose on benzodiazepines.
Judge Crater August 15, 2012 at 04:53 AM
The Court was misinformed. Bailiff will take confidential informant into custody. Defendant is to be released immediately upon return of the 100 CVS bottles. The Court wishes to thank New Canaan Voter for the information but finds NCV in contempt for the "stupid comment" remark. Sentence is suspended. Court is adjourned.

No, but it is one of your fellow New Canaan citizens.

I agree. The fact that this article was already written on a different Patch page doesn't mean it should be re posted here. If you're going to report arrests of New Canaan residents outside of New Canaan, you should report all of them, not just ones already written about. As this clearly isn't possible, why don't you just stick to what happens in the Town itself.

Sure thing.

may be Steve and Rick should have editorial approval of all Patch articles........? Report what you see fit Lisa. 1st amendment. I found the article interesting...though it left me wondering what the driver threw out the window.
