One Fraud, One Dispute, Two DWIs and Three Larcenies

Police reports for the week of March 13-20, 2011.

One Fraud

On the afternoon of March 14, a 68-year-old resident of Thrush Lane reported to police that she had been the victim of credit card fraud. On Feb. 28, The woman was contacted by her bank, which informed her that her debit card was overdrawn. When she checked her statement she discovered 24 unauthorized charges on her account. The charges, which were posted in Sweden, Ireland, London and France, totaled $5213.

A 25-year-old New Canaan resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after being stopped for speeding by an officer running radar on March 16. Eliza M. Schlesinger, of Logan Road, was driving northbound on Old Stamford Road near Park St., at 11:54 p.m. when she was stopped. As the officer approached the car, he detected the odor of alcohol. After failing a sobriety test, Schlesinger was given a verbal warning for traveling at an unreasonable speed. She posted $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 29.

An employee of Roger Sherman Inn on Oenoke Ridge Rd., contacted police on the afternoon of March 16 to report a case of larceny. A female guest checked in on March 13, and told the hotel she planned on staying for two nights. When the credit card she provided to secure the room was declined, the woman told the inn she would give them a different card, and they allowed her to check in. On the morning of March 16 a hotel employee asked the woman to provide a valid credit card. She gave them another card and that one, too, was declined. The woman told the hotel she would bring them yet another card after she collected her belongings from her room. She left the front desk and did not come back, leaving without paying a $588 bill. Police said the woman is a light-skinned black with freckles, in her mid- to late 40s. She is heavyset, and approximately 5’4” to 5’6”.

On the afternoon of March 18, a 53-year-old resident of Shaker Road, told police some bank documents and jewelry were missing from his home. He had last seen the bank documents two weeks prior to discovering them missing. He was not sure when he last saw the jewelry. He said there were no signs of forced entry, and he told police he may have ocacsionally left a door unsecured. Missing are several personal bank documents, as well as gold and silver coins, a gold cross pendant on a chain, three gold rings, an antique Assa watch with a leather band, and $100 cash. Total value of the loss is $500.

A 55-year-old New Canaan resident told police she discovered two items missing from a vehicle when she picked it up after having it detailed at New Canaan Car Wash on Vitti St. The woman said she brought the car in at 9:15 on the morning of March 18, and picked it up at 3:30 p.m.that day. Car wash employees had collected personal items left in the car and put them in a bag in the trunk of the vehicle. When she emptied the bag, the woman discovered two items were missing — a black Apple iPod Touch, valued at $200 and a pair of Bose earphones, valued at $150. Police are conducting an investigation.

Family dispute

A husband and wife were both arrested for disorderly conduct following a family dispute on March 18. Julie Aliapoulios, 42, called police to her Silvermine Road residence at 9:06 p.m. following an argument with her husband, Matthew, who lives on Belden Road in Norwalk. Mr. Aliapoulios told police Mrs. Aliapoulios had struck him following a heated argument. Both parties were issued summonses at the scene and released on promises to appear. They were scheduled to be in court on March 21.
