A motorist's car smashed into a garage at 53 White Birch Road on Thursday afternoon, resulting in a structure fire that was extinguished by members of the New Canaan Fire Department.
The motorist told police he was heading east on White Birch Road when his accelerator became stuck. The car veered off the roadway, traveling across a lawn and then smashing into the side of the garage. Police said there were no passengers in the vehicle.
Police said the motorist was out of the car — a 1991 Cadillac Brougham — when first responders arrived on scene around 3 p.m. The 34-year-old male was reportedly transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said after the car crashed into the garage, it caught fire, which in turn caused the structure fire.
A lone occupant of the home was not injured, according to police.
Police are investigating the accident.
