Police: 3 Calls, 2 Charges, 1 Weekend for New Canaan Man

The wife of a 62-year-old Parade Hill Road man called police three times on Sunday evening about her husband, who was arrested twice, New Canaan police said.

Police gave these accounts (which are accusations that haven't been tried in court) describing the incidents:

The first call came in at 8:32 p.m., Saturday. The woman said she was arguing with her husband, urging him not to drive his car into town because he had been drinking. Police came to the scene, discussed the matter with him and he agreed not to drive.

At 9:51 p.m., the woman called again, this time from Forest Street, downtown. Police said her husband was even more intoxicated than before. As he walked down the street, she asked police if someone could help her get him home.

She told police that before leaving their house he had tried to kick her. Police charged him with disorderly conduct, issued him a misdemeanor summons to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk and took him to a hospital for an evaluation.

Sometime before 9:15 a.m. Sunday, the wife tried to call for the third time to tell police that her husband had returned home, contrary to the conditions of his release on the disorderly conduct arrest. She said he also took a phone away from her when she initially tried to call 911. A neighbor then called police on the woman's behalf.

The husband was arrested on a charge of second-degree violation of conditions of release, his bond was set at $10,000, which he did not post, and he was to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
