Except for a toddler, whom police don't suspect, an AT&T worker was the only person in a New Canaan home with a babysitter, from whom $350 in cash was stolen, police said.
Police arrested the worker, Daniel Ogrodowicz, 35, of Second Hill Lane in Stratford, and said he's been involved in similar incidents in other towns.
New Canaan police say the theft took place on April 28, 2013 and they only arrested him on a warrant March 4.
Ogrodowicz was charged with larceny in two other cases in Norwalk last June (stemming from incidents police say took place on April 20 and May 1, 2013). He also was arrested by Stamford police on a first-degree larceny charge this past January (allegedly from an April 26, 2013 incident), according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.
New Canaan police gave these additional details in their account (an accusation not proven in court):
Ogrodowicz started working at the Main Street home when the 38-year-old Bridgeport woman was caring for the toddler, and he was there through much of the day.
The babysitter was in the house from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and when she left to go home, she stopped at a store to buy something. That's when she noticed her $350 in cash was gone.
New Canaan police applied for an arrest warrant and, after it was approved by a judge, Ogrodowicz was informed of it and turned himself in at New Canaan Police Department headquarters. He was released on a promise to appear March 18 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
