Teen Charged for Strangulation, Assault:
A 14-year-old was arrested at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, after a verbal argument with his father at their home on Orchard Drive turned physical. The boy was charged with assault 3rd degree, strangulation 3rd degree, and disorderly conduct. He appeared in Norwalk Juvenile Court March 25.
Drivers Cited for Defective Headlights in Two DWI Arrests:
An officer on patrol stopped Ryan Faherty, 34, of Darien on Main Street near Elm Street around 12:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, after reportedly noticing one of his headlights was out. In speaking with Faherty, the officer reportedly observed signs of intoxication and put the 34-year-old under arrest. He was charged with operating under the influence and driving with a defective headlight. He was released on $250 bond and is due in court April 8.
Around 9:45 p.m. Friday night, police were alerted to a motorist driving erratically and heading into New Canaan on Old Stamford Road. An officer stopped 43-year-old Grzegorz Spiewak of Stamford along Old Stamford Road. Reportedly, Spiewak was unable to maintain his balance outside the vehicle. He was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive right, operating under suspension, and driving with a defective headlight. He posted $250 bond and is due in court April 6.
Property Stolen from Vehicles Parked at Home:
A 54-year-old resident of Chichester Road reported to police Monday, March 22, that an Apple ipod classic, valued at $150, had been taken from his vehicle which was parked, unlocked, in front of his house. The complainant heard his dog barking around 2:30 a.m., and suspects the theft occurred then, but did not notice the ipod missing until around 10 a.m.
A couple from Toquam Road also reported to police Monday that several items had been taken from their vehicle while it was parked at their house sometime between 8:40 p.m. Sunday evening and 4:45 a.m. Monday morning. A Canon Powershot Camera valued at $200, a Verizon V-cast flip-style phone valued at $100, and an AT&T Blackberry valued at $200 were missing.
Supposed Prize-Winner Becomes Scam Victim:
A 75-year-old resident of Silvermine Road reported to police Tuesday, March 23, that she had been scammed out of almost $2,400. She had received a call from someone telling her she'd won $250,000 and that she needed to send $2,325 in order to claim the prize. The 75-year-old sent the money along with personal information including her social security number and date of birth. When the scammers asked for another payment, she contacted police. It is unlikely the money will be recovered.
Waveny Park Bench Damaged:
A Recreation Department employee reported to police Thursday, March 25, that a bench in the rose garden on the west side of Waveny Castle appeared to have been intentionally broken. The employee said the bench was last scene intact March 23, and was found damaged around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Warrant Served for Failure to Appear:
Khurram Sheikh, 33, of Stamford turned himself in Monday, March 22, after failing to appear in court on motor vehicle charges March 17. He is now due to appear April 7 for allegedly operating under suspension, failure to return license or registration, and traveling unreasonably fast on Dec. 17, 2009.
