Police Blotter: Gun Fired; Pee Outside the Toilets

Police also arrested a 14-year-old for assault and a suspected drunk driver in the past week.

Late Night Visitor from Stamford Urinates on Library Computer:

Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, while the New Canaan Library was open an extra hour to provide refuge for residents who'd lost power during the March 13 storm, Kenneth L. Hill was caught urinating on a computer, damaging a $150 keyboard. Police found a small bottle of vodka in the 43-year-old pocket and he reportedly reeked of alcohol. Hill gave no reason for his actions. He was arrested and charged with 2nd degree breach of peace and 3rd degree criminal mischief. He posted $235 bond and is due in court March 29.


Gun Fired Accidentally:

Andrew L. Sinn, 54, accidentally discharged his hand gun at his home on Heritage Hill Road. No one was hurt, and no one complained about the gunshot. Sinn, who didn't think the weapon was loaded, reported the incident to police at 11:48 p.m. Monday, March 15, because he wasn't sure where the bullet had gone. Police found the bullet lodged in a door jam in Sinn's condo. The permitted gun owner was charged with 2nd degree reckless endangerment and released on a promise to appear in court March 25.


Frisbee Catchers Missing for Waveny Disc Golf Course:


When a 52-year-old member of the New Canaan Disc Golf Association went to check the disc golf course in Waveny Park for damage Sunday, March 14, after Saturday's storm, the disc catchers were there. When he returned two days later, they were gone. No one has come forward to say they moved the metal baskets, valued at $200 and $375.


Thousands of Dollars in Fraudulent Charges:

A 50-year-old resident of East Hills Drive told police March 19 that someone had charged airline tickets and $1,495 worth of Best Buy purchases to her credit card.

Two days later, on march 21, at 12:18 p.m. a 32-year-old resident of Gerrish Lane reported that someone had opened a credit card account using his name and social security number. The outstanding balance on the card is $7,432.

Both cases will be investigated by the credit card companies.


Alleged Reckless Driver Likely to be Booked for DWI:

A motorist called police around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, March 21, to report that a vehicle in front of them was driving erratically on New Canaan Road in Norwalk. The witness followed the vehicle into New Canaan where police caught up with 30-year-old Gustavo Avelar on Smith Ridge Road near Glen Drive. Officers saw a large win wine bottle on the floor in the backseat of Avelar's vehicle in plain view. The Redding man was allegedly so intoxicated police were unable to conduct field sobriety tests. He was arrested, taken to police headquarters, and charged with reckless driving, operating without a license, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was then transported to Norwalk Hospital. Police are seeking a search warrant for his blood test results. He's due in court on the motor vehicle charges April 1.


Teen Taken to Juvenile Detention After Family Dispute:

Police were called to a house on Field Crest Road at 7:21 p.m. Sunday, March 21, where an argument between a 14-year-old boy and his mother had reportedly escalated to physical violence, though there were no serious injuries. Officers allegedly found a makeshift aluminum marijuana pipe and another glass one in the boy's room. He was charged with possession of drug paraphrenalia, disorderly conduct and third degree assault. He spent Sunday night at Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center and appeared in court Monday morning in Bridgeport.


Driver Finally Responds to Speeding Ticket:

Police served a warrant to David Rodriguez, 34, of Fairfield at 4:42 p.m. Friday, March 19, at department headquarters. Rodriguez had allegedly failed to respond to an infraction for traveling unreasonable speed Nov. 20, 2009. He posted $250 bond and is due in court April 6.


Cash Missing:

A 54-year-old resident of Toquam Road reported on Saturday, March 20, that $600 had been taken sometime on Thursday, March 18, when some workers had been at his house. The matter is under investigation.
