Police Blotter: Marijuana Possession, Burglary, Vandalism & More

Driver stopped for broken headlight, arrested for marijuana:

A 19-year-old female was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and drug paraphenelia after a traffic stop on July 13, 2010 at 12:28 a.m. Police say Julia G. Ozzano of West Avenue in Darien was traveling south on South Avenue when an officer stopped her for a broken headlight. When Ozzano opened her glove compartment for her registration, the officer spotted what he believed was marijuana. A search of the vehicle produced a small baggie of marijuana, rolling papers and a cigarette rolling machine. Ozzano was released without bond on a promise to appear in court on July 26, 2010.

Car spray painted with swastika, male anatomy:

On July 13, 2010 at 1:05 a.m., police responded to a complaint of vandalism from a 41-year-old male on Southwood Drive. The resident’s car had been spray painted with images of a swastika and male anatomy. Damages totaled $2,000. Police also noticed toilet paper had been strewn in trees across the street. Investigators are still unsure if this was a targeted hate crime, but suspects will face additional charges of committing a biased crime as well as criminal mischief.

Home burglarized but nothing reported stolen:

On the evening of July 13 at 8:44 p.m., police responded to a tripped alarm in the residential neighborhood of Country Club Road. Upon surveying the scene, an officer found the front door had been forced open and the back door was unlocked. The homeowner was out-of-town at the time of the alleged break-in. Upon returning home, the homeowner found the house had been rummaged through, but has not reported anything missing. Police say they were contacted by the alarm company at 8:41 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 8:54 p.m. The incident is still under investigation.

Man arrested on probation violation:

On July 15, 2010 at 8:46 p.m., New Canaan Police executed a warrant for the arrest of a Fairfield resident for a probation violation. Police say 28-year-old Jason E. Turoczi violated his probation on May 26, 2010. Turoczi’s probation stems from a December 2007 charge of forgery. Once in custody, police found Norwalk police had a similar warrant for Turoczi for a probation violation that also stemmed from an original charge of forgery in April 2006. Turoczi posted $30,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2010.

Calls from collection agency alert woman to identity theft:

Police responded to a complaint of identity theft on July 17, 2010 at 4:42 p.m. from a resident on Jeliff Mill Road. The 50-year-old complainant said she received a call from an AT&T collection agency for two unpaid accounts. The woman said she has never opened an AT&T account. The address and phone numbers on the accounts in question were traced back to New Haven. The first account, which was opened in March 2009, is delinquent $540. The second account, opened in March 2010, is delinquent $263. The complainant is not responsible for the charges in question and the incident is still under investigation.
