Police Blotter: Narcotics Possession, Family Dispute and Credit Card Fraud

Police activity for the week of August 15-22, 2010.

As the investigation into the fatal hit-and-run accident that took place on Wednesday continues, police released the following reports for the week of August 15-22, 2010.

Narcotics Possession

An officer patrolling Adams Lane on Tuesday, August 17 at 1:12 a.m., stopped to investigate a car parked at the intersection of Adams and Ponus Ridge.  When the driver rolled down her window the officer smelled a strong odor of burned marijuana. The driver, Janete Olivencia, 24, of Pacific St. in Stamford, handed the officer a partially smoked marijuana cigarette and told him it was hers.  No other contraband was discovered in a search of the vehicle. Olivencia was charged with possession of marijuana and operating without a license.  She was released without bond on a promise to appear in court on August 26.  No charges were filed against a passenger in the car.

Resident misses court date, turns self in

James F. French, Jr., 40, of Harrison Ave. in New Canaan, turned himself into police on Tuesday, August 17 after missing a July 22, 2010 court date for motor vehicle charges.  French had been arrested on November 11, 2009 for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, operating an unregistered vehicle and operating an uninsured vehicle.  French was charged with Failure to Appear 2nd degree and posted $1,000 bond.  He is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on August 31.

Son calls police in family dispute

An 18-year-old male called police at 1:05 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, after a dispute with his father escalated.  Felipe Ferrand, 56, of Valley Road, was arrested for disorderly conduct after his son reported his father had pushed him during an argument.  Ferrand appeared in court later that same morning.

Credit card fraud

On Friday, August 20, a 39-year-old Silver Ridge Road resident notified police after her credit card company alerted her to potentially fraudulent activity on her credit card.  Charges made on August 16 and August 20 are being investigated.
