Larceny Reported at Tuscan

A dispute between a contractor and his employee leads to a charge of larceny in connection with work being done at this New Canaan restaurant, police report.

An owner of The Tuscan Osteria and Mercato, which opened recently on Main Street reported to New Canaan Police on Nov. 9 at 3:20pm that a contractor working on his property reported to him an unauthorized use of his company's credit card by a worker in his employ, according to a police report.

The police report said that the contractor had authorized his employee to purchase materials at Home Depot for work being done at the restaurant and had given him his company credit card to make the purchase.

The contractor said, according to the report, that he later discovered that an additional $5000 charge had been made, which he had not authorized. The report further said that the employee said the charge was a down payment on a refrigeration unit for the job at the restaurant and that he had written authorization from his employer, the contractor, to make the purchase.
