Police also responded to a family dispute and a vandalism report in the past week.

DWI:

A town man was arrested Saturday afternoon, Jan. 16, after a witness reported seeing him driving erratically in a downtown parking lot around 1:20 p.m. and police finally caught up with him at his home.

An officer found the man reportedly traveling very slowly on South Avenue and weaving within the lane. The officer turned on his lights and intermittently sounded the siren when the man did not pull over, ultimately trailing him all the way into his driveway. There the man was forcibly removed from his car, handcuffed, and brought back to police headquarters.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive right, disobeying the signal of an officer, and interfering with an officer. He posted $2,750 bond and is due in court Jan. 28.

Peden, 42, of Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich turned himself into New Canaan Police Wednesday, Jan. 13, on charges he violated a protective order in July 2009 by posting messages about his ex-girlfriend, who lives in New Canaan, on the Greenwich Time Web site. He was arraigned on Jan. 14; the case is now awaiting disposition scheduled for Feb. 17.

James Lindsay, 30, of Chamberlain Avenue in Bridgeport turned himself in at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, on charges he stole checks from an 80-year-old man and then forged $950 worth. The complainant had reported to police on Dec. 3 that six checks had been cashed in mid to late November without his authorization.
