Police Blotter: Parole Violators, Wanted Man Arrested

Police also logged two fraud cases and a vehicle larceny in the Mormon church lot in the past week.

911 Hang-up Alerts Police of Domestic Dispute:

John Hickey, 42, was arrested and charged disorderly conduct at 6:46 a.m. Thursday, April 15, after reportedly getting into a verbal argument with his wife at their home. Hickey allegedly kicked and damaged a door in the course of the fight; there were no injuries. Hickey did not post $500 bond, and was taken to court that morning. He has been released and is due back in court May 19.


Assault Charge Follows Alleged Spousal Dispute:

Thomas Sill, 44, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and third degree assault after he reportedly kicked a door in the midst of an argument with his wife at their home shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, April 18; the door, which was damaged, hit her, causing minor injuries. Sill posted $1,000 bond and is due in court April 29.


Officer Reportedly Witnesses Drunk Driver Crossing Double Yellows:

An officer reportedly started following 37-year-old New Canaan resident Winshel Berlin after seeing her cross the yellow line on Park Street near Cherry Street. The officer watched her cross the yellow line several more times before stopping her near the intersection of Main Street and Locust Avenue. Berlin was charged with operating under the influence and failure to drive right. She was released on $250 bond and is due in court April 29.


Dump Truck Driver Picked Up on Bridgeport Warrant:


While running James Montgomery's license as part of an annual check of City Carting drivers who haul trash in town, New Canaan police discovered the 43-year-old was wanted for third degree assault in Bridgeport. New Canaan police arrested Montgomery at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, and held until he was picked up by Bridgeport police who took the case from there.


Cellphone Stop Nets Alleged Parole Violator:

An officer stopped 41-year-old Roberto Romero of Bridgeport on East Avenue at Forest Street at 4:48 p.m. Friday, April 16, for reportedly talking on a cellphone while driving a Chevy Express van. Romero had been convicted in May 2005 for selling hallucinogens and sentenced to six years years in jail, suspended after three, with five years probation. After pulling him over, the New Canaan officer discovered that Romero had allegedly violated parole in December, 2008, and a warrant for his rearrest had been issued Jan. 23, 2009. He is now being held on $75,000 bond and is due in court April 19, 2010.


Alleged Probation Violator Picked Up at Probation Office:

Forty-seven-year-old Glenn DeLuca of Westport, who was convicted in several cases of threatening, breach of peace, and harassment in 2007 and 2008, was picked up at the adult probation office in Norwalk at 10:13 a.m. Monday, April 12, for allegedly violating the conditions of his release. He posted $15,000 bond and is due back in court April 28.

A 55-year-old New Canaan resident reported to police at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, that her vehicle had been broken into between 4:15 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. that afternoon while she was inside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on South Avenue for a church function. The thief had apparently smashed a window to get to a leather purse valued at $500, a red wallet valued at $50, credit cards, $40 in cash, and a swiss army back-pack worth approximately $250.

Fraud Realized After Bill Delivered:

A 52-year-old New Canaan resident noticed charges she hadn't authorized when she got her credit card bill. She notified police Monday, April 12, that the card had been used without her permission at a West Norwalk store.


Fraud Alert Tripped:

A 54-year-old New Canaan resident notified police Saturday, April 17, after being told that withdrawals totaling $930 had been made using his bank card at the Mobil Station on South Avenue at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, and about half an hour later in Stamford.


Unpaid Speeding Ticket Brings $2,500 Bond:

New Canaan resident John B. Jeffrey, 43, posted $2,500 and is due in court April 21 after he failed to respond to an infraction for allegedly speeding and driving without minimum insurance in February.
