Police busy with break-ins, property damage

Vandalism at business

Police responded on Tuesday at 12:46 p.m. to a complaint from a female employee and found a metal door spray painted at Le Pain Quotidien. Estimated damage is $200.

Attempted burglary of residence

Police were dispatched to a Hillcrest Road residence Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. on the report of an attempted burglary. The homeowner told police he to went to plow the driveway and noticed a car backed into his driveway. He told police he got out of his car and a person approached from a neighbor's yard saying he was coming from working on a neighbor's house. The man quickly took  off in his vehicle, squeezing around the plow. The resident then noticed pry marks on the side door of his house. The suspect was described as black male, in his late 30s, 5'10" with an athletic build and weighing about 200 pounds. The vehicle is a tan-colored older model Catalliac Seville with New York plates. Nothing was taken.

Mailboxes Vandalized on Jelliff Mill Road

An officer patrolling the area noticed a mailbox on the ground on Jelliff Mill Road shortly after midnight Wednesday. When he brought the spilled mail to the house, the homeowner said she recalled her dog barking at something around 10 p.m.  Upon checking the area further, the officer found six mailboxes damaged along the road. 

 

Book drop damaged

Police on Wednesday at 9:08 a.m. responded to a report that a book drop was damaged at the New Canaan Library. The book drop appeared to have been struck with something large like a truck with a plow or an SUV, police said.

 

Burglaries on Avalon Drive East

An Avalon Drive East resident reported to police on Wednesday that he came home  to find a slider open to the first floor living room. The homeowner told police the items missing included: a Bose 321GS series surround system with a $1000 value, 26" Westinghouse LCD TV valued at  $350 and a Vizio 42" LCD TV valued at  $750.

While checking the area,  officers and the homeowner noticed footprints leading to another condo that was also broken into.

 

Burglary on Benedict Hill Road

Police on Thursday repsonded to a burglary complaint at 2:10 p.m. on Benedict Hill Road. A 52-year-old female said she arrived home just before 2 p.m. and noticed unusual footprints in the snow in her driveway and her rear sliding door open. Nothing was missing. Police are investigating.

 

Ridgefield Woman Charged with DUI

Police on Friday charged Liane Lowell, 46, of Cedar Lane, Ridgefield with driving under the influence and traveling at an unreasonable speed.

 

Teen Charged with DUI

Police on Friday charged a 17-year-old boy from New Canaan with driving under the influence after they spotted a car parked on the wrong side of the road at Shagbark White Oak Shade roads at about 11:35 p.m. They found three boys in the car with a strong odor of beer and nine cans of unopened beer strewn around the car. The driver failed a field sobriety test, police said.

The operator was charge with possession of alcohol, operating under the influence, motor vehicle passenger restriction. Bond was set at $260.

The two other boys were given infractions for possessing alcohol by a minor and released to a parent at the scene. 

 

Stamford Man Charged with DUI

Police on Saturday charged Agustin Pagan, 40, of Hope Street, Stamford with failure to drive right and operating under the influence of alcohol.

 

Riverside Man Charged with Possession of Marijuana

Police on Saturday charged William Whyko, 31, of Park Place, Riverside with possession of marijuana.
