Police Chief Requests Expedited Return of Hit and Run Evidence Analysis

A visit to the briefing room to share information with reporters.

New Canaan Police Chief Ed Nadriczny said Tuesday that he has sent a letter to the state crime lab requesting an expedition of the investigation of evidence from the Aug. 18 fatal hit and run accident.

"We are completing an extensive investigation, as planned," Nadriczny said during the police department's regularly scheduled weekly press briefing with reporters. "I did send a letter to the lab expedite analysis of evidence, if possible."

Nadriczny said it could take four to six months to get back analysis of evidence collected from the 2008 Infiniti QX56 police say was involved in the accident.

"We've done what we can within our authority," he said. "We have had an officer on this full time since the accident."

The accident claimed the life of 82-year-old Jayaraman Krishna, who was struck and killed at the mailbox in front of his son's home on Oenoke Ridge.

In an interview with Patch on Sept. 3, Nadriczny addressed some of the speculation surrounding the investigation.

"There are allegations we're covering up, protecting people," he said at the time. "Those comments are not accurate."

In the meeting Tuesday, Nadriczny reiterated his message.

"We don't know how rumors are getting out there," he said. "Comments that there is preferential treatment, that we are overlooking certain things. We are following a normal investigation timeline."

Nadriczny told Patch on Friday that his "biggest concern is how (the comments) will be viewed when the victim's family reads them."

"I don't want to do anything to put them in any more difficult situation," he said. "From the day of the incident people are saying some things they shouldn't."

Nadrizcny asked reporters to exercise patience and said police would inform the media of any pertinent changes in the status of the investigation.
