Police: Drunk NY Man Rear-Ends Car in New Canaan

A 48-year-old South Salem, NY man faces a drunk driving charge after he apparently rear-ended a motorist seeking to turn left off of Smith Ridge Road and onto Michigan Road, according to police.

James J. Roche, of 1 Buck Run, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested at 12:42 p.m. on April 29 and charged with operating under the influence, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

The 50-year-old woman he hit, in her Mercedes, complained of abdominal pain after the hit, Ogrinc said.

Roche was driving a Hyundai, she said. He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear May 9 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
