Two Stamford women were arrested after a New Canaan police officer found MDMA and Marijuana in their vehicle on Winfield Lane, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

An officer travelling southbound on Ponus Ridge approaching Winfield Lane saw a parked car on Winfield Lane with the lights on and both front doors open and, when the officer turned his patrol car around and turned on his lights, the vehicle began to drive away, said Ogrinc.

According to the officer, the vehicle did not stop immediately and he reported smelling the odor of marijuana along with a strong smell of air freshener coming from the vehicle as he approached it, said Ogrinc.

The officer reportedly saw several small, clear, plastic bags with marijuana residue in the glove compartment box when the operator of the vehicle was looking for her paperwork and, upon searching the vehicle, the officer found plastic cigar containers containing marijuana residue and a small, plastic bag containing an unknown powdery substance in the passenger's purse, said Ogrinc.

Responding officers performed a field kit test, which identified the substance as being Methylenedioxy Methylamphetamine (MDMA - commonly known as Ecstasy), police said.

Officers also found several packages of rolling papers and a grinder with marijuana residue, said Ogrinc.

The operator of the vehicle, Atisha, L. Vaghji, 19, of Stamford, was issued an infraction for possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

The passenger, Lindsey S. Morgulis, 19, of Stamford, was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics (felony) and possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana (infraction), said Ogrinc.

Morgulis was released and is scheduled to appear in court on August 27, police said.
