Police: 18-Year-Old Pushed His Mother Down the Stairs

An 18-year-old man was arrested April 7 after he pushed his mother down a flight of stairs, New Canaan police said.

When an 18-year-old son pushed his 43-year-old mother down the stairs a week ago Monday, a younger sibling decided it was time to call 911, and did, New Canaan police said.

Part of a railing broke off in her fall — but the mother wasn't injured, according to police, who gave this further account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident:

When police arrived at the house on Jeliff Mill Road after the 8:12 p.m. call, the mother told them that she and son were in a verbal argument when it turned physical.

Her son had also damaged some things in his room — a lamp was knocked over and broken, as was a coat rack.

Police charged the son with disorderly conduct and second-degree reckless endangerment.

They also found a small amount of marijuana and a pipe in his possession, so he was also charged with possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was held on $2,500 bond, which he did not post. He appeared in state Superior Court in Norwalk the next day.
