Police: Husband Contacting Estranged Wife Leads to Arrest

After being told by police not to harass his wife, a Pound Ridge Road man sent her what she described as a "bizarre" email and then was found in the driveway of the couple's home, seemingly under the influence of medication, New Canaan police said.

Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

On April 28, the woman, 39, complained to police that her estranged husband was contacting her and harassing her. Police told him not to do either or he could face arrest.

Nine days later, on Wednesday, May 7, at 11:36 a.m., she came to the police station to say she'd received the "bizarre" email from him and that it made her fearful.

Police went to her home with her so that she could pick up some things, and they found the husband in the driveway.

An officer who spoke with him saw his speech was slightly slurred and thought he might be under the influence of some sort of medication. The officer patted down the husband and found a prescription narcotic not in its proper container.

The husband was charged with trespassing (an infraction), second-degree harassment, illegal possession of a controlled substance (both misdemeanors) and failure to keep  drug in its original container (a felony).

His bond was set at $5,000, which he posted, and as with all domestic-related cases in which police in Connecticut think there's a possibility of violence, he was told to appear in court the next day — state Superior Court in Norwalk.
