Police: New Canaan Woman, Driving Intoxicated, Took a Turn for the Worse

A Richmond Hill Road resident was charged with DUI — driving under the influence — after she drove northbound in a southbound lane on Route 123, police said.

A police officer reported that as he was driving on Silvermine Road on Sunday he saw a car turn right onto Route 123 and head northbound — in the southbound lane.

New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of how that observation turned into an arrest on a charge of driving while under the influence:

The officer saw the bad driving at about 6 p.m., followed the car and made a traffic stop near the intersection of Route 123 and Locust Avenue, where the officer smelled alcohol on her breath.

The driver, Glenda Moralee, 67, of Richmond Hill Rd., did not pass field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated, and making an improper turn.

Moralee posted a $250 bond and was released for a July 31 appearance in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
