Victim In Fatal Accident Identified [UPDATE]

Car involved was a Maserati Quattroporte.

UPDATE, 12:54pm

The passenger who died in last night's motor vehicle accident was identified by police as James Jackson Savage, 74, of Seattle, Washington. The car involved in was a 1999 Maserati Quattroporte, which is registered to Michael Savage.

New Canaan Police said they "interviewed a person at the hospital" who was not detained.

UPDATE, 9:51am

Michael Savage, 37 of Clearview Lane, New Canaan,  has been detained without incident at Stamford Hospital by Stamford Police, despite concerns expressed by Sgt. John Milligan of the that he, "may try to run if he saw police," according to The Stamford Advocate.

Police said that it appears Savage may have had someone drive him to the hospital and may have severe internal and external injuries, The Advocate reports.

ORIGINAL STORY

New Canaan police are looking for the driver of a vehicle involved in a Thursday night fatal car accident on Ponus Ridge.

Police were called to the scene of a "serious motor vehicle accident" in the area of Ponus Ridge and Lakewind Road at approximately 10:30 p.m., according to a press release. 

“Arriving officers found a vehicle with a passenger trapped inside and witnesses saw the driver leaving the scene on foot,” the release said. The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said they are looking for Michael Savage, 37, of Clearview Lane in New Canaan. They said he is a white male, 5’ 9”, 160 pounds, and was last seen wearing a gray sweater and blue jeans. Police said Savage is bald.  Police said  they think he might have severe internal and external injuries, according to the release. 

The name of the victim will be released  when the family is notified.
