Ponies Run Loose in New Canaan; Officer Kicked

Police say the ponies' owner was fined $500 after officials and a helpful neighbor secured the animals.

New Canaan police say it took the town's animal control officer, two additional officers and a helpful neighbor 45 minutes to secure a pair of ponies that got loose in town late Wednesday morning.

According to Animal Control Officer Mary Ann Kleinschmitt, the animals were seen running on Smith Ridge Road near North Wilton Road at 11:09 a.m.

One police officer was kicked during the incident, and Kleinschmitt herself sustained a hand injury, police said.

The ponies' owner was cited and fined $500, police said.

Finally, something for the New Canaan police to do other than bust parties and give marijuana tickets. Can't wait for the NCPD to pull over their first medicinal marijuana user now that the bill passed.
