$800 Stolen from Red Mango Robbed During Store Hours

Police are investigating the theft from the store's basement before the establishment closed for the day.

Larceny

Police are investigating a complaint by the owner of Red Mango on Elm Street that $800 in cash was stolen while the store was still open, police said.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on April 30, store surveillance video shows an unidentified black female entering the rear door of Red Mango, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. Ogrinc said that there was no mention of the rear door being forced open.

The store’s owner told police that the $800 was taken from an office in the basement where it was not stored in a safe, police said.

Vandalism

A Parry Road resident reported that the rear window of her vehicle was shattered while it was parked in her car port, police said.

The 83-year-old resident called police the morning of April 30 to report the incident. Police found no rocks or tools that could have been used to break the window, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

Fraud

Police are investigating a White Farm Road resident’s complaint that someone opened up an online bank account associated with his social security number and bank account number, police said.

The 63-year-old resident told police that AT&T Collections contacted his about an overdue account that he says he never opened, police said.

The suspect made three attempts to open charge cards, which failed, and the account that the suspect did manage to open did not result in any lost funds for the complainant.

Narcotics

A Stamford man was given an infraction after police found he was allegedly in possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana during a traffic stop, police said.

A New Canaan police officer pulled over Jonathan Acuna, 21, after noticing he had a defective headlamp. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the officer reported the smell of drugs coming from the car, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

Acuna then allegedly handed over a Zip-loc of marijuana from the center console to the officer, police said.
Acuna was searched and nothing else was found on him, police said.

Failure to Appear

A New York city man was brought to Norwalk Court on May 4 for allegedly failing to appear to a court date on December 10, 2010, police said.

Gordon Waldron, 36, was given an infraction for an alleged soliciting permit violation on Middleridge Road on May 6, 2010, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. Waldron allegedly failed to mail in the fine, which resulted in a court date on December 10, 2010, which he allegedly failed to attend, police said.
