Reported Stolen: $35 in Lawn Signs, $10,000 in Fishing Gear

New Canaan residents also reported a stolen cellphone and property damage.

are investigating a report that seven political lawn signs were stolen from the area of the Mobil gas station downtown.

Roy Abramowitz, who for Town Council, reported July 19 that the $5 signs were in place in the morning but missing at 12:30 p.m., when he reported a theft, police said. Mobil’s video surveillance system doesn’t cover that area, police said. The complaint is under investigation.

About $10,000 in fishing gear was reported stolen from a locked vehicle on Cheese Spring Road, police said. At 12:11 p.m., a 48-year-old man reported that the gear, including rods and reels, was stolen from a car parked in his driveway, according to police. It’s under investigation.

Police say they’re investigating a report that a 40-year-old woman reported a $200 cellphone stolen from the Waveny Pool area some time after 3 p.m. on July 20.

A tenant at a Michigan Road home is accused of causing about $18,000 in damage to walls, floors, ceilings and a heating system, police said. The complainant, a 50-year-old man who owns the home, reported the damage July 21, police said. Police are investigating.

Finally, a 49-year-old East Avenue resident at 7 a.m. on July 23 reported vandalism and damage to his fence and mailbox, police said. The damage—no estimate was available—included a broken archway in a fence that faced the house, as well as a broken mailbox that had been mounted on a post nearby, police said. The incident is under investigation.
