Sallea Antiques Employee Catches NY Thief

A New York woman was caught stealing from Sallea Antiques by a store employee.

A Rye, New York woman was arrested in New Canaan on August 18 for stealing from Sallea Antiques, police said.

Sarah B. Mitchell, 58, was arrested by New Canaan police after the Elm Street antique store’s employee noticed a missing item and found Mitchell had taken it, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

The 76-year-old employee told police she noticed a round, crystal container with a silver top (valued at an estimated $200) was missing and confronted Mitchell outside the store under the suspicion that Mitchell had taken it, said Ogrinc.

Mitchell admitted to taking the crystal container and returned it to the employee, who then contacted New Canaan police, followed Mitchell to her parked car, then remained there until police arrived, said Ogrinc.

Upon arrival, police saw multiple bags in plain view in the front of the vehicle belonging to Mitchell, who consented to a search of the car, police said.

Police found several items of clothing, a silver platter and multiple small plates, said Ogrinc.

Mitchell initially told police she had purchased the items and that they were in her car so that she could return them, but then later admitted to stealing the items, said Ogrinc.

Mitchell was taken to the police station, charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on the promise to appear at her August 27 court date, police said.

According to Ogrinc, the items were possibly taken earlier in the week from stores in White Plains, NY.

I thought the same thing. She certainly went above and beyond.

Hey Emily, those New York thieves must be a special catch. Are New York thieves different from Connecticut thieves? Just asking...

Hey Canaan guy, stop acting like a snotty dick. People like YOU are the reason why I quit my job as a tow truck driver. People like YOU AKA Canaan Guy would call Triple A because you have a flat tire and too retarded to figure out how to change your own damn tire. And on top of it, New Canaan snobs are CHEAP. I am outside in the rain and snowing and sleeting at the same time, and your bitchin that I am taking too long because you FAILED to remember where YOU put the lock lug key to remove your rim off your car. Then have the balls to tell me I didn't receive a tip because "I Took too long".
