South Salem Man Arrested in New Canaan on DWI Charges

An officer conducting a traffic stop for an allegedly broken tail light said the operator failed field sobriety tests.

A traffic stop along New Norwalk Road led to a DWI arrest Sunday, according to Sgt. Carol Orginc.

An officer traveling behind a vehicle along New Norwalk Road at approximately 1:36 a.m. Sunday, April 14, noticed a tail light out on the vehicle in front of him and conducted a motor vehicle stop, Ogrinc said. According to her, the officer approached the vehicle to ask for the license and registration of the operator, identified as Henry D. Lehr, 52, of 65 Grandview Road in South Salem, when the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from inside vehicle.

Lehr also displayed other signs of being intoxicated, Ogrinc said, including glazed eyes and slurred speech. The officer then conducted field sobriety tests, which Lehr allegedly failed. Lehr was brought back to headquarters, charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and operating a vehicle with a broken tail light, and issued a $250 bond, which he posted. Lehr has a scheduled court date of April 26.
