Standoff Man ID'd as New Canaan Resident, Former Weston School Bus Driver

Negotiations with 48-year-old charged with two felonies captured on YouTube chat

Police have identified the man arrested for allegedly threatening municipal officials and residents in Weston and New Canaan following an overnight standoff as Scott DeiCas, a former school bus driver and self-described "leader of the LSD revolution."

The 48-year-old New Canaan resident, pictured right, has been charged with second-degree harassment and third-degree computer crimes – both class D felonies – for posting threats on the Internet that referenced "death and destruction" and included "be prepared the Zionist scum," Weston Police Chief John Troxell told Patch.

"We felt that this was a credible threat," Troxell said.

DeiCas – or "Scotty Nasty DeiCas," as he calls himself on a self-tailored YouTube site where he advocates for LSD and counsels on the drug's use – was a school bus driver for Weston public schools for two years until 2009, when complaints of strange behavior from parents and students led to his reassignment by the town Board of Education, Troxell said.

This week, threatening comments posted under his screen name appeared in Internet chat rooms and on the YouTube site.

One post attributed to DeiCas' YouTube screen name reads: "KILL THE BEAST; I will start with the_ Weston, Connecticut Town Government!!!" Another reads: "The New Canaan, Connecticut pigs are dishonorable_ sacks of (expletive).

The police investigation kicked off following what Troxell called "a suspicious message" left on the voicemail of an administrative assistant at the Weston Board of Education. Innocently following up on the message, the administrative assistant phoned DeiCas back and found him abrupt, Troxell said.

"He hung up on her and she thought it was not normal," he said. "She thought it would be a Weston number but when she did a reverse phone book search, it turned out to be a New Canaan resident."

She identified DeCais through a basic search on the Internet and found some of his threatening remarks, Troxell said. She then notified the police in Weston, who soon obtained the warrant for DeiCas' arrest and partnered with the New Canaan Police Department in an investigation. Police say they arrived at the DeiCas house at 295 Ponus Ridge at about 10:30 p.m. Friday. DeiCas refused to surrender, leading to an overnight standoff that ended at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, after police surrounded the house, used a "flashbang" device to create a distraction and sent in a police dog. DeiCas eventually surrendered without further incident, New Canaan police have told Patch.

In an unusual twist, much of the back-and-forth between DeiCas and police negotiators has been captured in a YouTube chat.

Troxell said the screen name identified as "CTOpCop" in the exchange below is a member of the New Canaan Police Department.

CTOpCop: Hey Scott, I am the Officer you were asking for. The tall guy with the goatee. I am Officer (removed). I am also outside your house. Visitors to DeiCas' chat room appeared to follow the police negotiations online, and have weighed in with comments such as "lol your homeless," "Please contact me when you're_ released Scott" and "What the hell did you do Scott?? Hopefully you'll get the_ help you need."

According to Troxell, DeiCas sent out threatening e-mails to New Canaan town employees and police. New Canaan police say their own charges against DeiCas are pending. He likely will be arraigned in court in Norwalk on Monday, police say.

Timothy Stokes, a spokesman for First Student Inc., the school bus company that serves Weston, confirmed that DeiCas used to work for the company but offered no details regarding dates of employment or how that employment ended.
