Stolen: The Lamborghini of Jumper Cables

At 5:30 p.m., a man showed up at the New Canaan Gulf gas station to ask if he could buy a jumper cable.

He needed to jump start his car, a white Nissan Maxima which had stalled nearby, the man told a 30-year-old clerk at the station, according to New Canaan police.

The clerk explained to the man that the station didn't sell jumper cables. But he offered to loan one to the man, who took it.

And then never returned it.

That would be a theft of an item normally worth about $12, but this was no run-of-the-mill jumper cable. Oh, no.

This was a $400 jumper cable, police were told when they asked about its value. This was one very expensive jumper cable -- the Lamborghini of jumper cables, so to speak.
