The Accident Report: One Crash Begets Another

A rear-ender occurred downtown when a driver stopped to allow an ambulance headed to another accident on Smith Ridge to pass.

Accident in YMCA Lot Not Caught on Camera:

A New Canaan resident who parked her vehicle in the YMCA lot around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, returned a little more than an hour later to find that the right rear corner of the vehicle had been struck and damaged. Surveillance video showed nothing of value in identifying the vehicle that caused the damage.


Collision at Entrance to Mobil Station:

An 18-year-old New Canaan driver was reportedly not looking where she was going around 11:15 p.m. Friday, April 16, as she was exiting from the Mobil Station. She struck a vehicle operated by a 39-year-old man from Stamford who was pulling into the station from Cherry Street. Police took no enforcement action as the incident occurred on private property.


'It's the Pedal on the Left':

A 27-year-old woman from Ridgefield accidentally stepped on the gas, rear-ending a vehicle stopped ahead of her at the intersection of Oenoke Ridge and Lambert Road. Police gave the offending driver a verbal warning for unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle.


Mailbox Suffers in Apparent Hit and Run:

A resident of Kelly Green reported to police on Saturday, April 17, that his mailbox had apparently been struck by a vehicle, possibly a Toyota, between 8 p.m. the previous evening and 7 a.m. that morning. It appears that the rear window of the vehicle was broken before it continued down the road. Police have no other information about the vehicle in this time.


Police Investigating Single-Vehicle Accident:

A 63-year-old New Canaan woman damaged about a 15-foot stretch of stonewall near the intersection of Richmond Hill Road and Weed Street around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, April 17. A full accident report is still being compiled.


Two-Car Crash at Smith Ridge and Michigan Road:

A 26-year-old driver from Darien attempting to cross Smith Ridge Road at Michigan Road collided with a 51-year-old driver from Pound Ridge, NY who was driving south on Smith Ridge shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, April 18. Police issued the 26-year-old an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign. The other driver complained of neck pain after the accident and was taken to Norwalk Hospital.


Vehicle Rear-Ended While Making Way for Ambulance:

A 75-year-old New Canaan driver who stopped after the light had turned green to allow emergency responders en route to the accident on Smith Ridge to pass was rear-ended at the intersection of New Norwalk Road and East Avenue at 5:18 p.m. Sunday. Police gave the 68-year-old Waterbury woman faulted for the accident a verbal warning for traveling too closely; his vehicle sustained severe front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
