Tree Hits Car, Closes 106

Though there were no injuries, Old Stamford Road was closed for several hours.

Old Stamford Road, which is part of Route 106, was closed for about four hours today after a large tree fell near Jelliff Mill Road striking a vehicle and downing power lines. No one was injured. Both lanes of Old Stamford Road were immediately closed.

The driver, a 30-year-old woman from Bronx, New York, was traveling south on Old Stamford Road when she saw the tree starting to fall. She accelerated to get out of the way but failed to avoid the falling tree. There was damage to the entire vehicle.

Connecticut Light & Power and the state Department of Transportation were contacted. The road was cleared and reopened to traffic around 6:30 p.m.
