Trees Down, Power Outages In New Canaan [Update]

The rare October storm is causing damage and power outages in New Canaan.

CL&P is reporting that 996 of its customers in New Canaan are without power. There are reports of trees down on South Avenue near the Merritt Parkway. A falllen tree landed on a car near Tony's Deli on  Pine Street.

Mother Nature's surprising October blast is wreacking havoc in New Canaan. Mike Handler of New Canaan's emergency operations center reports that as many as 200 homes are without power.

In addition, there are 20 roads throughout town with fallen trees on them. CL&P has been notified about the power outages.

Handler says the operations center is now open to handle incoming calls. If residents need help they should call 203-594-4100.
