An 18-year-old former student at Cooperative Education Services in Trumbull allegedly threatened to return to the school and start shooting.
James Patrick Ryan, of South Avenue in Stratford, has been charged with second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of the peace.
Trumbull Police said officers responded to Cooperative Educational Services, located at 25 Oakview Drive, shortly after 10 a.m. this morning, Jan. 18.
"According to staff members, a student at the school [Ryan] was being told he could no longer return there. The student’s mother arrived to take him home and as he was leaving, he made a threat to return to the school in a manner similar to the tragedy in Newtown, on Dec. 14, 2012," said Trumbull Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry.
"Officers were immediately assigned to the school’s two locations and Detectives immediately prepared a search warrant for both the suspect and any weapons. The warrant was served in Stratford with the assistance of Stratford Police and was accomplished without incident," Harry said.
Ryan was held in lieu of $25,000 bond for an appearance Jan. 28 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
A representative from Cooperative Education Services was not immediately available for comment on Friday afternoon.
According to CES' Website, the school was created more than 40 years ago by Connecticut legislative mandate to "help neighboring school districts communicate and collaborate. C.E.S. is one of six regional educational service centers (RESCs) and a member of the RESC Alliance."
"The C.E.S. mission is to identify and provide quality educational opportunities to students, educators, families, and communities. It's our goal to provide innovative, cutting edge programs and services to meet the demands of our Fairfield County school districts and communities."
