Two Overturned Cars, Traffic Snarled on Merritt [Video]

Both northbound lanes of the parkway are closed between exits 35 and 36, state police confirm.

Emergency responders closed both of the Merritt Parkway's northbound lanes between Stamford and New Canaan Wednesday afternoon following an accident just south of the Lapham Road overpass.

At 1:15 p.m., two overturned vehicles could be seen as New Canaan paramedics and firefighters and state police aministered to the wrecked cars and their occupants (see video).

"It's an accident with injuries and the lanes are closed between exits 35 and 36," Connecticut State Police Trooper Kelly Grant said.

New Canaan police spokesperson Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said that local police were assisting in traffic diversion.
