Woman Charged With Pot Possession, Speeding

Two signs observed by New Canaan police led them to make an arrest last Thursday.

A 23-year-old Stamford woman was arrested and charged with possession of less than one-half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding following a motor vehicle stop on Gerdes Road near White Oak Shade Road.

According to police, on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 5:41 p.m., an officer running radar stopped a vehicle for traveling above the posted speed limit of 25 mph. Upon speaking to the driver, Amanda A. Kelly, police noticed she "appeared to be very nervous" and noticed ashes on her shirt.

The officer then asked the driver if there were any drugs in the vehicle, to which she responded she had small amount of marijuana. Officers then searched the vehicle and found a "small amount of marijuana in a plastic baggie on the passenger side door compartment and a metal grinder under the driver's seat."

Kelly was issued an infraction ticket for all three charges, police said.
