Attorney for Fired State Employees to Subpoena Gov. Malloy

Rich Rochlin wants the governor to explain why his clients, who are accused of D-Snap fraud, can't receive unemployment benefits while they appeal their case, according to the Hartford Courant.

Attorney Rich Rochlin, who is representing 30 of the , announced Tuesday that he will subpoena Gov. Malloy and some of his top aides, according to the Hartford Courant.

Rochlin said that he intends to issue the subpoenas to find out why his clients aren't able to collect unemployment benefits while they appeal their cases. According to a press release, Rochlin accused the Malloy administration of "riding roughshod over the rights" of his clients.

Malloy that auditors would be hired to investigate whether state workers fraudulently received federal emergency money to replace spoiled food after Tropical Storm Irene. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service approved $13 million in replacement benefits for residents enrolled in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The state workers in question wouldn't qualify for this program because of the amount of income they receive.
