Campaign Notebook: McMahon Ad Targets Obama Supporters

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

A new ad from the Linda McMahon campaign features supporters of Barack Obama who also plan to vote for McMahon. Democrats – and some Republicans – are questioning the ad, which says McMahon would work with Obama if elected.

Chris Murphy told the Associated Press that the claim McMahon would work with Obama is a "lie.”

The Hartford Courant reports that the ad had a backlash on Facebook and Twitter from angry McMahon supporters.

Fourth District

Third District

Rosa DeLauro (D): Former presidential candidate George McGovern died on Sunday, and DeLauro cited the anti-war candidate as an inspiration, according to the Associated Press. DeLauro volunteered for one of McGovern’s three presidential campaigns.

Wayne Winsley (R) and volunteers planned to spend Tuesday evening at campaign headquarters in Stratford, according to his Facebook page. “Phone Banking, Sign Making, Brainstorming and more!” he said.

Fifth District

Elizabeth Esty (D): Campaign finance manager director Brian Weeks told supporters in an e-mail about the endorsement Esty received from the New York Times.

“And it’s not just the newspapers that are learning about Elizabeth’s fortitude,” he wrote. “More and more, folks across the 5th District are getting to know that Elizabeth is just the kind of principled, commonsense leader we need to send to Washington.”

Andrew Roraback (R) released his latest television ad. Titled “Blatant Lies,” the ad accuses Esty of “blatant smears” and “false attacks.”

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

Tom, the tree warden doesn't just "put in trees and take them down" just like that. ThereRead More is a reason behind every tree that has come down or gone up. Whats with this town and trees anyway? It seems like a huge source of controversy...they are TREES.
