Campaign Notebook: Murphy Predicts Being Outspent

Senate

Linda McMahon (R): David Collins from The Day wrote about the perceived tension between McMahon and Mitt Romney's newly running mate Paul Ryan. He says this comes from McMahon's refusal to support Medicare changes.. 

Chris Murphy (D): Murphy predicts that rival McMahon will outspend him in the general election campaign, reports the Norwich Bulletin. "I'm going to be outspent five- or ten-to-one in this election," Murphy said.   

Fourth District

Jim Himes (D): Himes released a statment congratulating victors of Connecticut's primary elections. "Earlier today I was proud to cast a ballot for Democratic candidates representing my community in Cos Cob and across the state.  I was thrilled to vote for my friend and future United States Senator Chris Murphy and look forward to the campaign ahead," he said. 

Steve Obsitnik (R): Greenwich Time reports that Obsitnik feels that 'Taxmageddon' is inevitable. He said that current tax policies in combination with the Affordable Care Act will lead to almost a half-trillion dollars in tax increases.

Republicans in Monroe CT are planning a huge campaign rally complete with (anti-gay rights) Chick-fil-A sandwiches. In what they are calling support for free speech, organizers of this event will be making a 3 ½ hour trip to New Jersey to pick up a 100 Chick-fil-A sandwiches for the enjoyment of their republican guests. This rally is being billed as the “Biggest Meet and Greet in the history of CT politics” Attendees will include more than 30 republican candidates and elected officials. Some notables are keynote speaker State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney. Steve Obsitnik, a Republican challenging incumbent Democrat Jim Himes in the 4th Congressional District race, 3rd District candidate Wayne Winsley, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Toni Boucher, and Rep. Gail Lavielle. The event is free and open to the public.
