Campaign Notebook: Shays Will Not Support McMahon

Daily news and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Chris Murphy’s campaign is spinning a gaffe from Susan Bysiewicz’ camp into a call for donations. The incorrect ad, which was based on the record of former New York congressman Scott Murphy and not the Connecticut congressman, is apparently still running.

“They refuse to take it off the air. Outrageous, right?,” wrote campaign manager Kenny Curran in an email to supporters. “Given our opponent's unfortunate refusal to take her ad off the air, we need to increase our televison [sic] buys this week.”

On the Republican side the Senate race, Chris Shays told the New Haven Register editorial board that he would not support Linda McMahon if she wins the primary. If there was any doubt of his true feelings, he sharply criticized her campaign, which refuses to meet with newspaper editorial boards.
“You have a candidate who is basically giving the finger to all the editorial boards,” Shays told the New Haven Register.

Jim Himes (D) may have been in office for a few years now, but he isn’t above some old-fashioned campaigning. Here’s what he said on Twitter.

Besides Shays, why would anyone want to even consider supporting MacMahon? Even dyed in the wool Republicans should be embarrassed to vote for her!

Republican voters are left with a difficult choice. Mr Shays is a 20+ part of the Washington mess and current lobbyist, who has been rejected first by the voters four years ago and now by his party at their convention. The Fabulous Linda (With apologies to former Stamford wrestler, the Fabulous Moula) offers little more than empty promises, and whose daughter can't seem to give up beating on people in the ring during the campaig (This week's Monday Night Raw extravaganza)
