Closing New Canaan Post Office to Address Community at Selectman Meeting

The New Canaan Post Office location at 2 Pine Street is closing come the end of January 2014, and the agency is seeking community input on what should happen next. 

On August 21, the Post Office revealed its lease had been signed out from under the organization by the building owner. On Wednesday, August 28, the postal service released the following statement, in which it revealed the requirements for a new space and a presentation planned for the September 10th Board of Selectman meeting.

The New Canaan Post Office, located at 2 Pine Street in New Canaan, will relocate its postal operations by January of 2014.  

The current owner of the property has advised postal officials that he has signed a lease with a new tenant after the expiration of the postal lease, which ends January 31, 2014.

The Postal Service is proposing to relocate the retail services currently provided at the New Canaan Post Office to a yet to-be-determined location within the 06840 zip code area.  We will require approximately 1,840 square feet of space for the operation.  The services available to our customers at the present location will be available at the new location.    

The Postal Service plans to make a presentation of this proposal at the September 10th New Canaan Board of Selectmen’s meeting being held at the New Canaan Police Department located at 174 South Avenue in New Canaan, Connecticut.  The meeting is scheduled to start at 9:00 am.

Written comments on this proposal are being accepted through September 25, 2013.  Comments must be in writing, reference this post office by name, and should be sent to the following address:
