Council Approves a $110,000 to Pave Timothy Hill Road

The work will allow the town to extend Enterprise Drive and take trucks off of Garder Road.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek has said 18-wheeler trucks in the industrial area of Pepper Street are traveling along scenic Garder Road, because Timothy Hill Road is in poor condition. Town Council members unanimously approved a $110,000 Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant to reclaim and pave Timothy Hill at their Monday night meeting.

"Timothy Hill would be the perfect cut through," Vavrek said at a previous meeting. "It will put people to work."

Enterprise Drive, a road in the industrial park, will be extended into Timothy Hill Road, which will become part of Enterprise.

Garder Road is not built to handle the weight of the trucks that are currently going over it, according to Vavrek.

I'm impartial to the project, but I'm so sick of this, "It will put people to work" mantra. Will only Monroe residents work on this project? Isn't Vavrek's duty to the residents of Monroe and not the workers of Connecticut? If I spend all my grocery money on a TV because it "supports the local economy", that's suppose to make me a responsible person?

I live on a dirt road, pay my taxes but yet have no bus transportation on my road so I need to drive my kids everyday back and forth to a nearby bustop. Why not pave my road and others where tax paying people live???

Why not? Just ask Vavrek - it will create more jobs!

That is an excellent question
