There will be a K-9 demonstration which will include New Canaan Police Department's newest officer "Zira". The event, "Dog Days of Summer" will take place on August 29 at 3 PM on Cherry Street in New Canaan. Zira and her trainer along with a K-9 from Norwalk Police Department will be at the event.
Zira is a three year old German Shepard born in Czechoslovakia. Zira is currently being trained to work with her handler Officer Mike McFadden. Zira is expected to be fully trained by the end of November. Zira will be trained in tracking, narcotics detection, criminal apprehension and article recovery. She will officially be sworn in as an officer this fall.
