On April 30, 2011 in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) the Town of New Canaan’s Police Department and Inland Wetlands Department announced their participation in the nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back” initiative that seeks to prevent increased medication abuse and promote the proper disposal of medications.

Collection will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription and over the counter medications will be collected for destruction at the New Canaan Police Department located at 174 South Avenue.

The service is free and anonymous.  Prescription and over the counter medications will be accepted.  Intra-venous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted.  Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not part of this initiative.
