FEMA Opening New Hurricane Sandy Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers

The new centers will be in East Lyme, Fairfield and Norwalk.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's office has issued the following press release:

Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Friday that three additional FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will open this week in East Lyme, Fairfield, and Norwalk to assist homeowners and businesses affected by Storm Sandy.

“While we are encouraging residents to register with FEMA either online or via telephone, these mobile centers are another resource for individuals looking to access assistance,” said Governor Malloy.  “If you live in one of the declared counties and you suffered damage from Storm Sandy, register with FEMA and visit one of these centers so we can begin the disaster assistance process.”

So far, more than $2.2 million in federal disaster assistance has been approved to help individuals with disaster expenses in Connecticut.  To date:

  • More than 6,550 Connecticut residents in counties of Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribal Nation located within New London County have registered for federal disaster assistance.
  • More than $2.1 million has been approved for housing assistance, including short-term rental assistance and home repair costs.
  • More than $134,000 has been approved to cover other essential disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses and lost personal possessions.
  • More than 600 households have received FEMA grants to help pay for temporary housing.
  • More than 1,400 inspections of damaged properties have been conducted.
  • More than 4,800 disaster loan applications have been issued by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). Of that number, more than 3,800 are for home loans, with more than 900 applications from businesses.

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.
