Libertarian, Green Parties Strengthen in Connecticut

The Green and Libertarian parties hope to attract Connecticut voters disillusioned with the typical choice of Republicans and Democrats.

With the presidential election in high gear, third parties are increasing their efforts in Connecticut.

The state’s Libertarian Party broke fundraising records of more than $40,000 and plans to open a campaign headquarters Canterbury, according to the Norwich Bulletin. Gary Johnson, the party’s endorsed candidate and former governor of New Mexico, competes against Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama this November.

The Green Party, which is the state’s fourth-largest party behind the Independent Party, is also no stranger to Connecticut. Presidential hopeful Jill Stein fundraised .

While party officials are optimistic about getting their candidates on the ballot this year, the majority of voters in the state are registered to the two main parties or unaffiliated.

released by the Secretary of State in April, there are 7,341 Democrats, 414,539 Republicans and 828,252 unaffiliated voters.  Independents total 9,482, while Green Party voters total 1,722 and Libertarians are 1,259 strong.

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.
